Mrs Galaxy Thami, Executive Director, Hope And Rural Aid Foundation (HARAF), on behalf of  the CSOs, made the  call in Yola at Dinner in commemoration of International Day to Protect Education from Attack.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the  International Day to Protect Education from Attack urges countries to respect and protect the right to education in emergency situations, and reminds parties to armed conflicts to refrain from violence.

In proclaiming the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, celebrated for the first time in 2020, the UN sends a clear message regarding the importance of safeguarding schools as places of protection and safety for students and educators.

Also, on the need to keep education at the top of the public agenda.

Thami said that the enlightenment would be on early warning and early response against attack.

“The school children are our future leaders, hence the need to be seriously enlightened including the stakeholders in the communities on early warning and early response.

“This will help them to be secured and be able to report any suspicious characters against any attack,” she said.

According to her, the CSOs are ready to provide such service especially in the rural areas that are vulnerable to attacks.

Thami added that the enlightenment programme would make them to understand that the issues of security concerns everybody.

In her remarks, Mrs Wilbina Jackson, Commissioner for Education, Adamawa, commended the organisers and assured of government’s commitment to protect schools.

Jackson, who was represented by Mr Muktar Tukur, Director, Human Capital Development, Ministry of Education, Adamawa,  said that government had taken a lot of measures to ensure schools were protected and quality education provided. (NAN)
