The CGC Strike force of the Nigeria Custom Service has over the past five weeks intercepted smugglers around the zone while they were on their illegal activities and have dealt a big blow to their nefarious trade by seizing large amounts of goods from them.
The team made a total seizure of 1185 bags of 50kg rice, 2147 cartons of cosmetics, 1320 bales of textile materials, 1956 cartons of shoes, 1 saloon car.
It also arrested three suspects over the period.
The team revealed that the duty paid value of the seized items is Four Hundred and Seven Million, Two Hundred and Twenty Eight Thousand, Two Hundred and Forty Seven Naira (#417,228,247.00) only.
This was revealed by the coordinator of the Strike force in the zone, DC Ahmadu Bello Shuaib while addressing journalists at their base in Ikeja.
Shuaib appealed for the constant cooperation from the Media in sensitizing the public in the importance of complying to the rules of legitimate trade and also the disadvantage of illegal trade.
