The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ikeja has confiscated goods worth N1.595billion.

The seizures were for the month of November with brand new cars topping the list.

The Controller of the Unit, Comptroller Mohammed Uba who took journalists  round for the inspection of the seized items at Ikeja said 64 brand new cars of 2017 model were among the seizures.

Uba said the vehicles were mainly bullet proof cars whose importation may have been without payment of duties and other necessary approvals from the National Security Adviser (NSA).

He said the bullet proof cars will remain seized until the importers come along with evidence of payment of duties and other necessary documents.

He further, disclosed that some of the cars were evacuated from Omole Estate and other car shops in Lagos, while others were seized on the road.

The vehicles alone, according to the Comptroller were valued at N1.3bn. After one month of grace period without the importers coming forward with evidence of payment of duties and other necessary documents, the seized items will be forfeited to the federal government.

Among the seizures announced Wednesday by the Customs FOU, Ikeja, were 13, 333bags of foreign parboiled rice, 835 jerry cans of vegetable oil which value was put at over N200million.
