The Comptroller-General of Customs, (CGC) Strike Force Team, Zone `A’, has revealed that the team recovered N429.12 million from Demand Notices (DNs) on cargoes already cleared from Lagos seaports from January 1, 2021 to date.
The Coordinator of the Team, Deputy Comptroller Ahmadu Shuabu, in a statement noted that the Demand Notices were recovered through the Information Communication and Technology (ICT) component of the team.
Shuaibu said that the team within the period under review in the quest to enforce the Federation Government’s fiscal policies, Customs and Excise laws, made seizures with a cumulative Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N278.78 million.
He listed the items as 1,930 bags of foreign rice (50kg each); 552 cartons of foreign foot wears;1,227 rolls of chiffon textile materials; 18 pallets of perfumes, cosmetics and bags; 2,064 cartons of bulbs; and 1,810 cartons of alcoholic and non-alcoholic wine.
“Operatives of the Comptroller-General Strike Force Team ‘A’ is in a renewed vigour and determination to curb and suppress smuggling to its barest minimum and its existence is to complement other component units of the Service in enforcing trade compliance.
