The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Command in Delta has impounded over 400 vehicles for violating COVID-19 lockdown in the state.

Mr Fatai Bakare, the Acting Sector Commander, disclosed this at a media briefing on Wednesday in Asaba.

Bakare said the command also arrested and profiled a total of 74 persons before the State Mobile Court for prosecution over violation of the lockdown order.

“Over the period of the three weeks lockdown in the state, the FRSC, in our commitment to the enforcement of the government directive, arrested over 400 vehicles for violation.

“The impounded vehicles were held for violating the government order as part of measures aimed at curbing the spread of the COVID-19.

“We also profiled about 74 offenders to the state government’s mobile court for prosecution,” he said.

According to him, FRSC is committed to the enforcement of the lockdown aimed at curtailing the spread of COVID-19.

Bakare issued a warning to commercial transporters in the state to avoid overloading their vehicles or risk prosecution.

“In view of the measures put in place to check the spread of the COVID-19, we warned transporters against overloading.

“For instance, commercial tricycles are expected to carry only two persons with the driver to maintain the social distancing order,” he said.

Bakare reinstated the determination and commitment of the command to work with other security agencies to ensure all measures put in place by the government were followed religiously.

“Here in the command, we take these measures very seriously, that is why you see all our officers are wearing the mandatory facemask.

“In fact, you cannot step into our gate without sanitising your hands and wearing your facemask, because we have to lead by example,” Bakare said.

He disclosed that the command had been provided with protective kits to enable its officers carry out their enforcement duties without hindrance.
