Over 200 government officials, electric power industry executives and experts are currently in Cape Town, South Africa to explore ways to accelerate digital transformation within the power industry.
Meeting under the aegis of the fifth Huawei Power Summit, under the theme, “Leading New ICT, the Road to Smart Grid”, the stakeholders discussed how innovative information and communications technology products and solutions can be used to enable a Smart Grid that delivers efficient, reliable and affordable energy to consumers.
The power summit organised by Huawei, the leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, was a co-located event at Africa’s largest electric power exhibition, African Utility Week (AUW) 2017.
The summit came in the wake of resources being increasingly depleted and power companies searching for a reliable and sustainable way of providing electricity.
Companies are seen progressively moving towards Smart Grids which integrate traditional power systems with advanced ICT technologies, including cloud computing, big data, internet of things (IoT) and mobility, to connect, support situational-awareness, and achieve business intelligence of various power terminals.
Huawei showcased one-stop Smart Grid ICT solutions.
Among these, together with State Grid Information and Telecommunication Technology Company of China, NARI Group of China State Grid, and SAP, it demonstrated smart service solutions covering power generation, transmission, transformation, distribution, and consumption.
The solutions represent the latest developments of a Smart Grid designed to run and manage modern energy networks.
“The use of Smart Grids is being unfolded,” said Jerry Ji, President of Energy Sector, Huawei Enterprise Business Group.
He said leveraging Huawei’s leading ICT, they had developed major solutions together with partners, covering all aspects of the electric power industry and the Power Cloud solution.
Ji said in line with Huawei’s ‘platform + ecosystem’ strategy, they are working with strategic partners to build an open and win-win ecosystem for the electric power industry.
