Dizengoff Partners Lagos State On Food Production

Lagos state government has applauded the efforts of Dizengoff through its collaboration with the government to make food abundant at affordable prices for its teeming population. 

The commendation came during  he presentation of product exhibition on mechanizing community agriculture organized by the state’s ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs in collaboration with Dizengoff in Alausa, Lagos.

Speaking during the event, Folu Padonu, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairscongratulated Dizengoff Nigeria for” its collaborative efforts with the state government,” which he said “marks the beginning of our partnership in agricultural revolution for community agriculture in Lagos state.”

The product presentation and exhibition was part of a capacity building programme, a collaborative effort with Dizengoff Nigeria which involves the training of farmers to ensure they have technical know-how on modern ways of farming to improve their yield.

The programme covered four areas of agriculture solutions where participants were enlightened on the use of modern agricultural machineries and implements, Greenhousetechnology, irrigation solution, agrochemicals and consumables.

Participants in the programme which was organized as a “train-the trainer” programme, were drawn from HODs of Agric and social Services, Agricultural Desk Officers in all the state’s 57 LGA/LCDAs. Other relevant stakeholders involved in mechanized based agricultural development also attended.  

In his key note address at the event, Special Adviser to the state governor on Communities and Communication, Akeem Sulaimon disclosed that state government believes that “enlightenment and empowerment of agricultural personnel especially in mechanized community agriculture at the local government level is a major key to sustainable development that will guarantee consistent growth of the economy in agriculture, food security and generate employment opportunities.” 

He noted that “globaly agricultural development is driven by mechanization. The best global mechanization management practices are important in ensuring optimal agricultural production better living standards, poverty reduction of rural – urban drift; reduce unemployment and youth restiveness in our communities.” Adding that the programme is “one of the policy thrust of the state government which recognizes that food security is important to the survival of the citizenry”   

 

“I want to appreciate Dizengoff Nigeria for this collaboration and the passion for empowering farmers coupled with the introduction of new technologies which would lead to good agricultural delivery in the state in no distant future,” AlhajiTajudeen Quadri, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Lagos State, also said.

Antti Ritvonen, Dizengoff Nigeria CEO/Country expressed delight at “the opportunity to collaborate with the Lagos state government on the programme. He expressed strong optimism about the future of agriculture in the country which he said has very huge opportunity and strongpotential to easily become self-sufficient in food production within a short time.” He pledged Dizengoff’s readiness to work with the Lagos state government on how to rapidly transform the state’s agriculture and achieve food sufficiency.
