The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Football Club, EFCC FC on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 defeated its counterpart,  EDEL FC in the ongoing Federation Cup  in a crucial match that ended 5-4.

The game which took place at the Kwara State Stadium, Ilorin,  in front of sport lovers and cheerleaders saw the EFCC team defeat their opponent in a penalty shootout which ended 5- 4 after a breathtaking goalless draw at full time to qualify for the round of 16.

Chibuzor Eze with Jersey number 24, an attacking midfielder,  scored the winning goal that secured the victory after the EFCC goal keeper Aweta Obu secured a penalty save from Chinedu Uzor of the Edel FC.

The Executive Chairman of the Commission, Ola Olukoyede while addressing the team after the game,  appreciated them for their fighting spirit, assuring them that the Commission will give the necessary support to encourage them to bring home the trophy.

Olukoyede, who spoke through the Ilorin Zonal Director, Erin Tope Harry stated that the win was an indication that “”EFCC is winning in the anti-graft fight”,  assuring that the EFCC, fans and lovers of Nigeria who wish to eradicate corruption are behind the team.

“ I want to congratulate you for making us proud.  You see,  when you go out there wearing this jersey, you are not representing yourselves alone because anybody that sees you first thinks of EFCC. So we are using sports to send the message too. You are our anti- corruption ambassadors in the area of sports and we thank God for this win and we pray that you will continue to win until you bring home the cup.  I wish you all the best” he said.
