El-Rufai Says Nigeria Due For Restructuring

The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has stated that the Northern politicians opposed to restructuring as selfish and hypocrites.

El-Rufai made this comment during a panel discussion; at the on-going 26th Nigerian Economic Summit, NESG, in Abuja, on Tuesday, November 24.

According to the governor, those Northerners opposing the agenda are doing it for selfish purposes.

El-Rufai further explained there are a lot of different positions or meanings of restructuring; noting that the view of Northern Elders Forum, NEF, is different from the average northerner.

The Governor however, disagreed with the notion that the North is enjoying the current structure; saying that the North has the highest number of out-of-school children; and the highest poverty rate in the country.

He also condemned some people presenting restructuring in a derogatory way; in a manner that portrayed all the northerners as backward people.

Speaking further, El-Rufai reiterated the commitment of the All Progressive Congress   (APC) towards restructuring.

He noted some interested members of his party are making frantic efforts to get the draft bill presented to the National Assembly for consideration before the end of the tenure of the present administration.

Also, the governor disclosed that his committee made bold recommendations at the time; and prepared a draft bill for onward transmission to the National Assembly which every lawmaker could take up and sponsor as a private bill.
