A first class traditional ruler, the Emir of Potiskum, Alhaji Umaru Bubaram Ibn Wuriwa Bauya, reportedly trekked for several hours after his convoy was attacked by suspected terrorists. The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 17.
The Emir disclosed that he had to trek for about two hours in the bush days following the dastardly attack.
Thenattack was confirmed by one of the traditional rulers in the emir’s entourage, Sarkin Yamma Potiskum; Alhaji Gidado Ibrahim.
Alhaji Ibrahim revealed that the Emir had to be taken to the hospital after the trekking incident. Additionally, the incident was confirmed by the Kaduna police spokesman, Yakubu Sabo.
Following his return from hospital in Kaduna the Emir of Potiskum, Alhaji Umaru spoke about his ordeal. While expressing sadness over the death of his aides killed in the attack the Emir called on Nigerians to assist the Federal Government in the fight against terrorism and insecurity.
Alhaji Umaru’s convoy was attacked along Kaduna-Zaria road in an incident that left several dead. Although the Kaduna Police spokesman claimed that only six were killed and a few kidnapped sources said that the death toll may have hit 30.
A number of soldiers were killed in the attack. Also, it is believed that scores were kidnapped in the incident.
The convoy was ambushed by gunmen dressed in military uniforms along the Kaduna-Zaira highway.
The soldiers killed were part of the convoy of the Emir of Potiskum in Yobe State who was believed to be the main target.
Coincidentally, Ansaru, an al Qaeda-linked terrorist group, claimed to have killed 22 Nigerian troops in an attack.
However, it made no mention of any kidnapped soldiers or civilians and the group did not mention the Emir of Potiskum as being the target.
