The Enugu State Government on Thursday reported the hacking of Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s phone line by fraudsters.
The state Commissioner for Information, Chidi Aroh, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Enugu.
Aroh said that it had come to the knowledge of the State Government that the MTN cell-phone line; of the governor was hacked by unknown fraudsters on Thursday.
He said the fraudsters have been using the hacked number to call members of the public, including government officials.
“Enugu State Government hereby informs members of the public of this unfortunate incident and urges them to disregard any call; or message emanating from the said phone line. The security agencies and the telecom service providers have been duly notified and are working round the clock; to apprehend the culprits.
“We most sincerely regret any embarrassment or inconvenience that these fraudsters may have caused unsuspecting members of the public.’’
Meanwhile, the second COVID-19 patient in Enugu State has been discharged barely 24 hours after the first patient was released.
The Commissioner for Health, Prof Ikechukwu Obi made the disclosure in a statement issued in Enugu on Thursday and said that the patient had recovered and tested negative to the Coronavirus.
On Wednesday, the state Ministry of Health had announced that one patient had been discharged.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had announced two cases of COVID-19 in the state. It disclosed that the two cases were in isolation and receiving care.
But according to Obi, two of them are now negative for the Coronavirus and have been discharged.
“We encourage our people to continue to stay home; try not to touch your face without having washed your hands, maintain strict hand and respiratory hygiene; also wear a face mask in line with the NCDC’s advisory and maintain physical distancing,” he said.
The commissioner appealed to the people to call the designated help lines to report any suspected cases of COVID-19.
