The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has conducted an air crash rescue simulation operation to assess response to air crashes.
The exercise was carried out at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
According to Mahmud Sani, FAAN’s Regional Manager, North Central said, “This was meant to test the safety and emergency plan of the airport in preparation for its re-certification.
“The exercise was also aimed at examining how the response agencies would manage and respond to emergencies at the scene of an accident.”
The Nigeria Police, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Department of State Services, Ports Health, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Fire Service Department of FAAN were present during the air crash rescue simulation exercise.
According to the Deputy general manager, Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Department, Rimdap Nantim, the air crash simulation exercise was targeted at revealing the level of coordination among response teams at accident scenes.
