Fake Customs Officer Arraigned In Ekiti

A 36-year-old man, Tunde Adewole, has been arraigned by the Police before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly posing as an officer of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). Adewole is also standing trial for alleged forgery and fraud.

The Police prosecutor, Johnson Okunade, told the Court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence on June 20 at about 1000hrs at Egbewa Street, in Ado-Ekiti.

 

He alleged that the accused and others at large committed felony to with impersonation by representing himself as a Customs officer, which he is not. Okunade also alleged that the accused and others at large did forged

one Custom papers for Lexus ES 359 and being a public document.

 

He added that the accused and others at large did obtained money under false pretence by collecting the sum of N850,000 from one Aniyikaye Olumide with promise to issue him a genuine Customs paper for his Lexus ES 350‎, which he failed to do.

 

According to him, the offences contravened Section 108 (2), 467 and 419 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ekiti State 2012.

 

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. His counsel, Mr Chris Omokhafe, urged the Court to grant him bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

 

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N400,000 with two responsible sureties, having a verifiable addresses.

 

Adegboye adjourned the case until January 26 for hearing.
