EKITI State Governor Ayodele Fayose has called on Dr. Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress not to rejoice yet over his victory at the APC primary, saying that will be the closest he will get in the Ekiti gubernatorial race.

Tweeting @GovAyoFayose, the governor wrote: “I thank the APC for giving Ekiti people a candidate they love to vote against at all times. Fayemi should not celebrate this pyrrhic victory yet because it is nothing but a flame that will be quenched on July 14.”

Also, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Idowu Adelusi, in a statement made available to one of our correspondents, boasted that Fayemi would be roundly defeated again.

He said, “In 2014 when he was the sitting governor and I was not in power, I trounced him mercilessly. I gave him 16 – 0, defeating him in all the local governments, including in his home town. He did not win a single local government.

“Now, I have been in power for more than three years and have served the people of Ekiti well. My legacy projects are there to speak for me, and for my party – the Peoples Democratic Party – as well as for our candidate in the July 14 governorship election, Prof. Kolapo Olusola.

“Fayemi will suffer the worst defeat of his political career. After the July 14 election, he will go into political oblivion.

“He has nothing to celebrate because of the electoral disaster awaiting him. The manner of his so-called victory also leaves much to be desired as it has turned many of their party leaders and followers against him,” he submitted.

Meanwhile, the APC in Ekiti has described the outcome of the primary that produced Fayemi as its governorship candidate for the July 14 election in the state as democracy in action

The state Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, also commended the security agencies for their professionalism in maintaining law and order.

“The party appreciates Governor Umar Al-Makura-led committee, the security agencies and the party officials that made the election peaceful, transparent, rancour-free and successful,” he said.

Olatunbosun urged members and aspirants to see the outcome of the primary as a collective victory for the APC and the people of Ekiti State that were desirous of a change of government for the betterment of the state.

In the same vein, Fayemi urged his supporters to respect other aspirants who contested against him in the primary because they remained leaders of the party.

He cautioned his supporters against harbouring any ill feelings towards them and their supporters, saying they were all leaders who should be accorded respect in view of their sterling qualities and contributions to the party.

Fayemi stressed that the activities of all the aspirants in the past few months had further strengthened the party, adding that any of the aspirants would have made a better governor than any candidate the PDP could present.

He said, “If you really want us to succeed in the quest to form the next government in the state, I urge you all not to carry over pre-primary hostilities in your relationship with my co-contestants and their supporters.

“We are one big family. We cannot all win in an election. But one thing I know is that all the contestants are eminent Ekiti sons and daughters who are qualified to govern the state better than the present occupier of the office.”
