FIIRO’s members of staff have applauded the management team under the leadership of Prof. Gloria Elemo for the unrelenting drive in upgrading the institute’s laboratories to meet international standards, hence the recent accreditation of FIIRO’s analytical laboratories by the International Standard Organization ISO 17205
Speaking while expressing her delight at the feat, the Director General of FIIRO, Prof. (Mrs) Gloria Elemo said FIIRO can now be classified with contemporary institutions overseas and outcome of analytical services in FIIRO can be relied on all over the world. FIIRO analytical laboratory is divided into the management and technical sections. The management section ensures quality assurance of product, analysed in the laboratory and also the compilation of up to date documents, while the technical section manages the equipments used to carry out the analytical procedures.
In addition, she explained that most of the staff in the division had undergone training on different scopes in the area of analysis such as Atomic Absorption Spectrophometer (AAS), Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer (GCMS), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Charcoal, Profile and Self Ignition test for non-food and moisture and Ash for food. Also, each scope has competent certified analysts that perform the analysis and handle the equipment.
She spoke further that the benefit of this international accreditation to the institute is that any analysis done in FIIRO would be accepted all over the world and results given to the client will be internationally recognized.
