The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has taken bold steps to fight the use of fake motor insurance in the country.

Lagos state Sector Commander, of the Corps, Hyginus Omeje, announced the move as it collaborates with the Insurance Awareness and Advocacy Group in the exercise.

Omeje who spoke at the start of road safety and insurance awareness campaign in Lagos, observed that in many cases accidents victims were not compensated because of ignorance.

“It is in line with the above the Lagos State Sector Command  of the FRSC in collaboration with the IAAG in organising this awareness campaign”, he said.

He said the proactive step gears towards sensitising and creating robust awareness as most motorists carry fake insurance certificate in ignorance.

The President, IAAG, Mr Idongesit Mbat, said the IAAG Nigeria is a body of professionals from different sectors of the economy working together to promote insurance awareness in Nigeria.

“Today, we are starting another great journey of bringing insurance awareness to at least 20 million people in Nigeria in the next three years.  It seems tough but we are determined to achieve this”, he said.

Mbat said it was commencing a partnership with the FRSC to promote motor insurance awareness in Lagos and planned to extend this to other states.

He observed  that many still lived with negative impressions about insurance, which showed that the work was enormous and could not be left to the insurance industry alone.

“It is said that despite the efforts by the National Insurance Commission, the Nigerian Insurers Association and Insurance companies towards addressing this situation many Nigerians are still not aware of the many benefits they can derive from insurance”, he said.

He said the IAAG was working with the fire service and would soon commence the insurance awareness in partnership with the fire service.
