A major petroleum products conveyor operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, in Lagos for the second time in three day causing palpable fear of possible shortage of petrol across major states in the south west.
The pipeline located is in Baruwa, a Lagos suburb and receives products from the Atlas Cove and Mosimi and transports to other parts of south west.
The Vandals first set the facility on fire Monday June 17, shortly after stakeholders meeting, which include Baruwa community representatives, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Pipelines and Petroleum Marketing Company, PPMC, a subsidiary of the NNPC, and Pentagon Security, a private security company put in charge of the pipeline on Saturday June, 15.
The fire was successfully put off on Tuesday but the desperate suspected Vandals struck again today Wednesday causing extensive pipeline damage.
Oriental News Nigeria reports that only the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA Response Unit, LRU, was on ground to fight the fire, but got stuck due to bad terrain.
There were no confirmation of Arrests by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC detailed to provide security in the area.
The NNPC surveillance team at the scene could not confirm cause of the fire or volume of product shut in as a result of the fire.
