Human Rights, Liberty Access and Peace Defenders Foundation ((HURIDE), has demanded for the immediate and unconditional release of the secretary of the Foundation in Abia State, Comrade Goodluck Okezie.
In a statement issued in Aba, Abia State, the Chairman, Board of Trustees, HURIDE, Dede Uzor A.Uzor, called on the Inspector General of Police to immediately disband and overhaul SARs in Abia State.
Recall that two days ago, the state Secretary of this organization Comrade Goodluck Okezie was abducted by the Special Anti-robbery Squad of Aba, in Abia state.
He was believed to have been arrested by the SARs operatives acting on the orders of the Commander, SARS, Aba, Abia state for raising alarm over his previous illegal arrest and extortion against members of his community by the Commander’s men when he was handcuffed and thrown at open back of Hilux Van which exposing him to heavy rain between Uturu to Aba, Abia state.
Citizen Okezie was said to have contacted infectious and untreated pneumonia.
This was the second time the Human rights activist would be arrested for being critical against extortion and illegal arrest of the innocent members of his community by SARs operatives in Abia State.
HURIDE had condemned the earlier arrest of Okezie by SARs , which infuriated the SARs Commander, Mr JohnBull hence his order to rearrest the activist.
The two Commissioners of Police CP JOHN AMADI and Abia state CP ordered for his immediate and unconditional release.
HURIDE also commended the intervention of the two CPs, human Community and other critical stakeholders who immediately intervene for his release.
The organization further warned that comes next week Friday, all the CSO’s in the South East will embark on peaceful protest in Abia state to demand the removal of the OC SARS Abia State over his purported gross human violations, impunity and other extra extortive conducts.
