Worried by the chaotic traffic situation along the LASU-IGANDO expressway, the Divisional Police Officer, Igando Police Station, CSP Taiwo Kasumu, on Friday flag off a task team to handle the situation.
The move is in-line with the directive of the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu to all Area Commanders and their DPOs to esnure free flow of traffic in their area of responsibility.
Flagging of the task team the DPO of Igando, CSP Taiwo Kasumu said most road users have now resulted in the use of the LASU-IGANDO expressway as a result of the state of Mile 2-Badagry expressway.
Kasumu, said the cutting-off the Mile 2-Badagry expressway, has resulted in the increasing traffic flow along the LASU-IGANDO road.
He said the task team which include officers from the traffic unit who he said are to be assisted by officials of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Security Cop (LNSC), Vigilante and Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC) in their various areas.
“Because of the state of most roads, particularly the Mile 2-Badagry expressway most road users heading to Oshodi now plies the LASU-IGANDO road to avoid the traffic on that axis. This accounts for the increasing volume of traffic.
“Commercial bus drivers also add to the problem of traffic. I have instructed members of the task team to ensure that keep moving. Anyone arrested for violating the state traffic laws would be dealt with” he added
To ameliorate the foreseen situation, Kasumu said 50 personnel which include traffic policemen, LSNC, vigilante, would be posted to acis to boost the number of officers on duty and thus prevent crime and ensure smooth flow of traffic.
He warned touts who might want to take advantage of the traffic to stay away from the Igando as anyone caught would be summarily dealt with.
