The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has announced its commitment to collaborate with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to strengthen and explore strategies to enhance the Service’s operational efficiency.

The IMF delegation, led by Ivohasina Fizara, Director of IMF AFRITAC West 2, visited the NCS Headquarters in Abuja. Fizara emphasised the IMF’s commitment to supporting the NCS in addressing operational challenges. He noted that the visit provided an opportunity for both parties to exchange insights and discuss targeted strategies for future collaboration.

“We aim to work closely with Nigerian entities to identify senior staff for professional attachments abroad, allowing them to gain valuable insights into how similar challenges are addressed in other countries,” Fizara stated. He further emphasised the IMF’s readiness to assist the NCS through technical support, regional workshops, and hands-on training opportunities.

Deputy Comptroller-General Jack Ajoku, representing Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi, expressed optimism about the discussions. He highlighted that the NCS is committed to the initiatives discussed and will appoint a liaison representative to coordinate ongoing efforts with the IMF, ensuring a streamlined and effective partnership.

Ajoku remarked, “We are encouraged by the progress made today, and your presence here has greatly advanced our goals as a Service.”

The meeting concluded with a group photo session, symbolising the strengthened commitment between the IMF and the Nigeria Customs Service. This collaboration marks a pivotal step towards enhancing the NCS’s capacity to achieve its objectives.
