The Okigwe Police Area Commander (names withheld) on Friday escaped an attempted kidnap by hoodlums operating within the Ideato axis of the state.
The kidnappers who had successfully abducted one Prof. Ndubuisi in Ideato South Local Government Area, alongside his Toyota Camry Spider car with Registration number AE 507PHE.
They were transporting him to their hideout in a gray Honda car when they intercepted the Area commander who was in company of his brother.
In the confusion that followed the attempt, the Area Commander managed to escape the onslaught but his brother, identified as Aminu Ibrahim Tambal was unfortunately kidnapped.
Our source said the kidnappers may not have known their target was the Area Commander as they were suspected to be looking out for a flashy vehicle to make good their escape.
However, the Imo Commissioner of Police Mr. Isaac Akinmoyede mobilized an aggressive manhunt for the kidnappers.
The kidnappers were consequently tracked and both the Area Commander’s brother and the professsor released.
The Imo Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Orlando Ikoku while confirming the incidence claimed that the Area commander was not in the scene of the attack.
He further revealed that no arrest has been made in connection with the incidence.
