| The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, has issued a warning to his staff against manipulating election results or engaging in activities capable of undermining the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process. |
| Amupitan gave the warning while addressing INEC staff in Ekiti State as part of preparations for the forthcoming governorship election. |
| He stressed that any staff found culpable of electoral malpractice would be prosecuted in accordance with the law. |
| The INEC chairman reminded electoral officers of their responsibilitiesunder the Electoral Act and urged them to conduct themselves professionally throughout the election period. |
| He also assured staff that the commission would recognise and reward outstanding performance, including granting double promotions where necessary. |
| Professor Amupitan described the Ekiti governorship election as a major test case ahead of the 2027 general elections, noting that the credibility of the poll would strengthen public confidence in the electoral system. |
| He further assured workers that the commission’s management was making efforts to improve their salary structure nationwide once the financial situation of the commission improves. |
