A new group for oil, gas and renewable energy-related risk managers is being formed by the Institute of Risk Management (IRM).

The initiative is launching with a LinkedIn survey, which is open until 2 October, polling the views and concerns of risk managers across the energy spectrum.

Project leader Alex Larsen, CEO of Baldwin Global, explained that the survey is a precursor to a thought leadership document, which in turn will be the launchpad of a new special interest group within IRM, along with specific industry sector IRM training courses.

“Until now, the IRM has only done a little specifically with this group of people and we felt it was time that we looked at the risks and opportunities within this sector,” he said.

Mr Larsen said there has already been a lot of interest shown in the LinkedIn survey and he hopes to have a wide range of views from both those based in energy corporates’ head offices globally and those working on the ground.

The sector, he said, has had some challenging times in the past couple of years and they are keen to discover how it is emerging and the risks that companies are considering for the years ahead.
