A Senior Magistrates’ Court sitting in Kano State, on Monday ordered that Auwal Abdullahi, 18; be remanded in correctional facility for the alleged murder of one Umar Abubakar.

The defendant, who resides at Aisami Quarters in Kano metropolis is facing a count charge of culpable homicide.

The prosecutor, Mr. Khalifa Hashim had earlier told the court that the accused person committed the offence on August 27 at Aisami Quarters in the metropolis. Hashim alleged that on the same date at about 11:10 pm; the defendant and the deceased had a misunderstanding over a cup of tea. The misunderstanding took place at a tea joint in the area.

“In the process the defendant stabbed the victim on his chest with a knife. As a result, he sustained serious injury. The victim was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital Kano, where he was confirmed dead,” he said.

Hashim added that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Penal Code Law.

Consequently, the Senior Magistrate, Hanif Sanusi, ordered the remand of the defendant after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

However, he ordered the police to forward the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

Sanusi adjourned the case until September 29, 2020 for hearing.
