The Katsina Police Command has rescued two victims kidnapped by bandits in the state.
According to spokesman of the Command, Gambo Isah, “Yesterday (Saturday) 07/03/2020 at about 23:30hrs, bandits in their numbers, on motorbikes, armed with AK 47 rifles, shooting sporadically attacked Yakasai village, Kurfi LGA of Katsina state and kidnapped one Zaianabu Hamisu, f. Aged 40yrs and Ali Muazu, m, aged 19yrs of the same address.
“In the process they shot one Alh. Audu Sabe, m, 70yrs on his face and wounded one Alh. Hamisu Sabe, m, on the head with a stick.
On receipt of the distress call, DPO Kurfi led a team of Policemen and laid ambush at the possible escape route of the bandits.
Fortunately, after an hour, the hoodlums ran into the police officers and were engaged in a gun duel.
The DPO and team succeeded in rescuing the two kidnapped victims alive and unhurt while many of the bandits escaped with gun shots wounds.”
The two wounded victims were taken to Kurfi General Hospital for treatment. Search party were dispatched to comb the nearby forest with a view to arrest wounded or killed bandits and to recover their operational weapons.”
Also, yesterday Sunday, 08/03/2020 at about 10:00hrs, one of the wounded bandits, identified as one Tukur Atti, alias “TUKURU”, m, 25yrs of Ummadau , Zakka village, Safana LGA of Katsina state, a notorious member of group of bandits terrorizing Kurfi, Batsari and Safana LGA of Katsina state, was found fatally wounded and unconscious in the forest.
He died on the way to the hospital and was certified died by the attending physician. Investigation is ongoing.
The Command said it has also recovered twenty six rustled cows from thieves. Isah, explained that based on a tip off, DPO Kurfi and team succeeded in recovering eighteen (18) sheep and 8 goats suspected to be stolen.
Two suspected bandits were seen with a herd of sheep and goats suspected to be stolen and when challenged they could not give a satisfactory account of how they came into possession of the animals.
Immediately they sighted the police patrol team, the suspects took to their heels and escaped into the forest leaving behind the animals. The animals have been handed over to Katsina state Government’s Committee on recovered animals while investigation is ongoing.
In another development based on a tip off, the Command succeeded in arresting one Kabiru Lawal, m, aged 30yrs of Fulani settlement, Ruwan Godiya, a notorious bandit and suspected kidnapper.
Nemesis caught up with the suspect when him and two other members of his syndicate (now at large) attacked the residence of one Nasiru Ibrahim, m, of Rugar Kadi, Ruwan Godiya village, Faskari LGA of Katsina state with intent to kidnap him but he escaped from their evil intentions.
The bandits only succeeded in taking away three bags containing his personal belongings. In the course of investigation suspect confessed to the crime and one bag of the luggage was recovered in his possession during search. Investigation is ongoing.
Again, based on a tip off, the Command has succeeded in arresting one Shafi’u Haruna, m, aged 27yrs of Dorawar Natiba, Birdigau village, Kankara LGA of Katsina state, a boyfriend to one Hamsiya Lawal, f, aged 14yrs of the same address.
The suspect was alleged to have killed his girlfriend sometimes in December, 2019 over dispute on the ownership of pregnancy.
In the course of investigation the suspect confessed to have taken the victim into the bush, strangled and smashed her brain with heavy stone killing her instantly. Police said investigation is ongoing.
