An insurance expert and chief executive officer of NEM Insurance,  Temitope Smart has urged Insurance  Practitioners in the country  to imbibe the virtues of integrity while discharging their duties.

This advise was given on Wednesday  during the 2018 induction of Fellows and Associates of the Chartered Institute of Nigeria in Ikeja Lagos.

Smart   who attributed under-performance in the insurance industry to lack of professionalism and integrity, said adherence to guiding principles was paramount in the profession.

While stressing the importance of honesty and knowledge sharing with colleagues, Smart charged the newly inducted fellows and associates to ensure customers’ satisfaction in all their dealings.

“One of the reasons why we are under-performing today is can easily be attributed to our inability to discharge our actitivies as true professionals on one side and our failure to uphold integrity as a virtue.

“You are no doubt aware that what we sell to members of the public are invisible products. For this product to accept wide acceptance therefore, the confidence level must be very high, for the confidence level to be high, we must ensure that professionalism and integrity are part of the value chain” He said

Earlier in his welcome address, President and Chairman of Council Chartered Institute of Nigeria, Eddie Efekoha advised the new associates to keep abreast of new trends in the profession to ensure smooth rendering of services to their clients.

“The completion of the Institute’s  examination and your induction as associates of the Institute today does not put an end to this quest for knowledge, you are admonished to develop yourself in order to keep abreast of developments that will ensure you stay relevant in the ever changing business environment” He said

A total of 138 Associates and 3 fellows were inducted into the the Institute.
