The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, whose agency responded to a multiple accident in the outskirts of Lagos has confirmed the death of one person.
The incident involved an 18-seater commercial bus belonging to GUO motors, a MAC truck, an SUV car and others which occurred on the Kara bridge, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
About seven vehicles including a container-laden truck were involved in the multiple accidents that initially paralysed movement and left motorists and travelers on the ever-busy road stranded in traffic gridlock.
The accident which happened on Thursday morning caused heavy gridlock on the bridge inwards OPIC and extended beyond Berger affecting outbound movement to Lagos.
One person identified as a hawker was confirmed dead.
Oke-Osanyintolu, said the agency responded to the above incident and upon arrival gathered that a containerized truck while in motion lost control.
“Brake failure resulted failed a multi car incident comprising of seven vehicles. A GUO transport bus and a Volkswagen were severely affected, with the Volkswagen falling beneath the Kara bridge,” he said.
Oke-Osanyintolu also confirmed that, “An adult male lost his life, while a second adult male sustained several injuries and has been transferred to a nearby hospital,”
