The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Muazu in company of other senior Police Officers and Marine police visited Ilashe, Ibasa, Ibeshe, Igbologun, Osolu communities for on the spot assessment of the areas recently enmeshed in crises.
The Area ‘L’ police command which was carved out of Area ‘B’ and Area “E’ in 2011 with five (5) divisions namely: Ilashe, Ibeshe, Igbologun, Osolu and Tarkwa Bay divisions and one (1) out station at Ilado all of which are surrounded by a vast body of water, making the area riverine in nature with many entry and exit points that have become getaway for hoodlums. The Command spreads across two local government area: Amuowo Odofin/Ojo Local Government Areas with one local council development area: Oriade LCDA. The community is also the home to snake island in Igbologun, Atlas Cove in Tarkwa Bay and Area L Command Headquarters at Ilashe.
Some of the divisional police officers of the communities like SP Ogunrin Mohammed of Ibeshe, SP Okeke Damian of Ilashe and Oba Mobadele Oyekan of the Onisiwo royal family, and the CP vows to end conflict and restore lasting peace in the area.
Ibeshe divisional police headquarters was among the upgraded police out post to a full fledged divisional police headquarters in the year 2011, and it was carved out from area Echo Festac to take charge of the security of lives and properties within Ibeshe, Ibasa and Ibeshe sea beach and it’s environs.
However, due to intensive anti-crime measures adopted and crime prevention strategies put in place in line with the CPCP (Commissioner of Police Crime Prevention) and also maximum support from rhe community, crime and other crime related activities were relatively low.
The CP had an indept discussion with Leaders of the Itunagan community Oba Mobadele Oyekan and some Chiefs at Inagbe grand resorts and leisure. The communities, were so happy to witness Zubairu Muazu as the only Lagos State Commissioner of police to have come to the island, one of the community leader by name Mr. Omolade Olugbeje commends the CP and seek for the community to have access to the police, which of the CP assured them that the state under his watch will work with them.
The CP was taken round the areas by boat which was piloted by SP Nwosu Benneth, the OC police Marine, the Area Commander, Mr. Osuji Ben, the state image maker, DSP Bala Elkana, and host of Marine police officers.
According to the CP ” The division is currently facing a lot of constraints and challenges which are in no doubt affecting the smooth and effective running of the administration of the divisions”
“A befifting structure with adequate logistic is lagging behind because there is no standard and logistic put in place, which might be affecting the officers to carry out their diligent duty as expected”
The Commissioner of Police called on the people to eschew violence and avoid rumour mongering.
He urged the people to be vigilant and report suspicious movements and persons to the police. He vowed to unleash the full weight of the law on any person or group of persons bend on breaching the peace of the communities.
Leaders of the communities applauded the steps taken by the Commissioner of Police as the first CP to visit them in the island and restoring lasting peace to the communities and promise to support the peace building initiatives.
