The Commissioner of Police Lagos State Command CP Hakeem Odumosu on Wednesday 29th July, 2020 decorated promoted officers in his Command.
He said the Command has Six Hundred and Fifty One promoted Police Officers, out of the 6601 Nationwide which he said is a huge plus to them.
According to him, the Command would only decorate those serving in the state Command and that others would be decorated by they area Commanders in their various Commands.
The decoration ceremony was done following the recent promotion of 6,601 personnel of the Nigeria Police Force throughout the Federation.
The ceremony was attended by the Command management team and relations of the newly promoted officers.
The promotion was in line with IGP’s determination towards boosting the morale of Police personnel for effective service delivery. It is also based on merit, seniority and dedication to duty.
In his address, the Commissioner of Police Lagos State, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu said that promotion is a time of appreciation therefore gave a round of applause to the Inspector General of Police Adamu Mohammed for his leadership role in bringing the police to it’s present state.
He said that to whom much is given, much is expected therefore said that with the promotion comes responsibilities.
With promotion comes more responsibilities for instance an Inspector promoted to ASP will find it difficult to dodge his responsibilities an would be be made to account for actions.
He said that the phrase “you ought to have known” is highly impregnated and advised the officers to stay away from being told such by shouldering up to their responsibilities.
He urged the officers to be lenient when dealing with civilians and should avoid using power arbitrarily and observe fundamental human right.
He advised the newly promoted to endeavour to supervise the men under their sphere of control which was a very important element in ensuring good organisation.
Twenty three who were promoted to the rank of SP, include Bala Elkana, Desmond Agbala, Hezekiah Adewunmi, Grace Eburuaja, Grace Olabode, Ayoola Alaba, Aghedo Fredrick, Cardoso Yetunde amongst others.
Some others promoted to ASP are Oluwafemi Lala, Love Nwumueyi, Saliu Yinusa, Olabode Olaide, Okanlawon Richard to mention a few.
In all, there was a total of 651 officials decorated with their new ranks.
However, only the serving officers at the Command were decorated, which was also useful in regulating the numbers of officials at a gathering in adherence to Covid-19 regulations.
“Those on the field will be decorated by their sectional commanders and operational head,” he said.
We have made adequate preparations to ensure that the Sallah will be a crime free season of celebration.
He said that the Covid-19 guidelines on social distancing and reduction on social activities would enable the police keep the peace and safety of lives and property during the period and beyond.
“I implore member of the public to observe the guidelines in other to curb the spread of the virus”
Odumosu said that some duty post are associated to some thanks but it now depends on the personality now of the officer to be deployed into any duty post is by the pedigree of that officer and the ability to discharge the responsibility of that office.
In his remarks, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge Operations, DCP Ali Mohammed said that one of the challenges that came with promotion was that an officers can be held vicariously liable for the inability to supervise their men well.
“You should know that as you are ascending in ranks, more resbonsibilities will be added which will now judge your actions by your rank.
He said that as senior officers, punishment will be commensurate to the rank you are wearing.
Mohammed congratulated the officers on their promotion and reminded them of their avow responsibilities in line with the providing of the Nigerian Police Act.
In addition the Deputy Commissioner in charge of Administrative, DCP Etim wished them and advised them to steer clear of actions and inactions that will warrant them been issued queries especially for those that were promoted to ASP.
Etim said that the ASP would now have the privileges of dining and relaxing at the Officers Mess.
He said that their induction would be done on a date that would be announced by the commissioner.
In the same vein, the Deputy Commissioner of Panti, DCP Yetunde Longe said that all the promoted regardless of rank were now superintendent of police which simply means them being in charge of certain people.
She wished them and advised them to remain dedicated and uphold their integrity as policemen.
