The insurance industry is looking at its books to ensure that victims of the unfortunate Lagos train accident are adequately compensated.
The Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), which gave the assurances said families of victims of the accident involving a train and staff bus belonging to the Lagos State Government would receive their insurance benefits from their underwriters if they were insured.
The President of the Council, Rotimi Edu, said this also expressed confidence that any of the victims’ dependents or the injured that were insured would not be left alone.
Edu expressed sadness over the death of some victims and the injury sustained by others, who were majorly public servants with the Lagos State Government.
He urged better management and control of the railway authority’s level crossing to avert similar disasters in the future, especially in busy or high-density areas just as he commended the Governor of the state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for declaring a three-day mourning.
Also, the National President of the Association of Registered Insurance Agents of Nigeria (ARIAN), Kunle Odewunmi, on his part expressed the Association’s heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished the victims a speedy recovery.
He said the timely intervention of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authorities LASEMA as well as the visit of the governor to the hospital was highly commended.
Odewunmi, further advised road users and motorists to be cautious, while going about their daily business activities.
