The Lagos State Waterways Authority has entered into a strategic partnership with the Apollo Africa Leadership Foundation to promote leadership development, youth empowerment, community engagement, and sustainability among young Nigerians.
The partnership was formalised during a recent visit by representatives of the foundation to LASWA headquarters, where both organisations explored areas of mutual interest and identified opportunities for collaboration.
Speaking at the meeting, LASWA General Manager and Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Blue Economy, Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, said partnerships remain essential to driving innovation and sustainable development across key sectors of the economy through youth participation.
He said the growth of the blue economy depends on visionary leadership, community involvement, and strategic collaboration, adding that LASWA is pleased to work with the foundation on initiatives that will benefit waterfront communities and stakeholders in the waterways sector.
The partnership is expected to focus on leadership training programmes, youth development initiatives, community outreach, environmental sustainability advocacy, and knowledge-sharing engagements aimed at strengthening the human capital needed to support Lagos State’s emerging blue economy.
Also speaking, the Director of Apollo Africa Leadership Foundation, Ayo Akindele, said leadership is one of Africa’s most valuable resources and that building future leaders requires collaboration between the public and private sectors.
He said the partnership with LASWA presents an opportunity to equip young people with the skills, exposure, and mindset needed to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development in Lagos State, Nigeria, and across the continent.
Both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to developing impactful programmes that will empower young leaders while promoting safety, sustainability, and community progress.
