The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has kicked off the fifth edition of its Water Savvy Kids Program, In an effort to boost water safety knowledge and swimming skills among children.
Starting Monday, October 20, 2025, in the heart of Badagry, this week-long training brings together 50 pupils from five local public schools in riverine areas where water transportation is part of everyday life.
The program blends hands-on swimming lessons with practical water safety education and emergency preparedness. LASWA runs this initiative in partnership with the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and Dolphin Swim School, a respected institution focused on empowering children and women through aquatic training.
With Lagos’s water transport system growing steadily, LASWA believes teaching young Lagosians how to navigate and respect the waterways is more important than ever. The goal is to build a generation of confident and cautious water users who can stay safe in and around their watery environment.
