The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has issued a fresh warning to fun seekers heading to Ilashe Beach for Fuji star Alhaji Sule Alao Malaika’s concert today, Sunday, January 11, 2026, stressing that night travel on Lagos inland waterways remains banned.
In a statement on Sunday, LASWA reminded both private and commercial boat users that all movements on the waterways are confined to daylight hours. The agency said the restriction is driven by safety concerns, including poor visibility and higher navigational risks after dark, and is aimed at preventing avoidable accidents.
Members of the public were advised to plan their trips early enough to ensure they return before sunset. LASWA further directed boat operators to comply strictly with approved operating times, enforce life jacket use for all passengers, and observe all other safety protocols.
The authority disclosed that, in collaboration with the Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) and other security and safety agencies, it will intensify patrols across the waterways. Any operators or passengers who flout the night-travel ban, it warned, will face legal sanctions.
Reiterating its mandate, LASWA said it remains committed to maintaining a safe, efficient and properly regulated water transport system for residents and visitors in Lagos, and urged everyone to take shared responsibility for safety on the waterways.
