
A 20-year-old man, Mohammed Ibrahim, on Tuesday, appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged shop breaking and stealing items worth a total of N725,000.
Ibrahim, whose address was not given, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of shop breaking and stealing preferred against him.
The prosecutor, Insp Bamikole Olasunkanmi, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offences on April 9 at about 2:00 a.m. at Ilawe-Ekiti garage Area in Ado-Ekiti.
Olasunkanmi alleged that the defendant and others at large broke into the shop of one Mrs Mudasiru Serifat.
He said that the defendant and his accomplices stole one big Tiger generator valued at N75,000, stoning machine valued at N100,000 and weaving machine valued at N100,000.
Other items stolen are; three units of butterfly sewing machine valued at N150,000 each, all with a total value of N725,000.
According to him, the offences contravened Sections 413(1) and (2) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The Counsel to the defendant, Mr Tunmise Akinwumi, urged the court to grant his client bail and promised that the defendant would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Michael Faola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case till May 9 for hearing. (NAN)
