A 34-year-old man, Adewale Odukoya, on Friday appeared before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court sitting in Isabo for allegedly defauding his employer of N830,000.
Odukoya is facing a three-count charge of stealing, fraud and breach of public peace to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecution, Insp. Lawrence Balogun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 3, 2020 at Stella Grace Nigeria Ltd., at Aro area of Abeokuta.
Balogun said that the defendant collected money from three different customers of the company and failed to remit it into the company’s account.
He said that the defendant collected N500, 000 from one Mr Oyedele Samuel, N125,000 from Babatunde Lukeman and N205, 000 from Mr Ayodeji Joseph.
Balogun said that the company found out that fraud when the defendant could not account for the money.
He said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of public peace.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 383(1)of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mr Dehinde Dipeolu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Dipeolu ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Ogun Government.
He adjourned the case until Aug. 10 for trial.(NAN)
