A man, who reportedly divorced his first wife about two years ago has allegedly murdered his pregnant wife, the woman he married after her.
The deceased was about six months pregnant when he strangled her.
Thereafter, she was allegedly thrown down from a five-storey building in Fegge, Onitsha, Anambra State.
The identity of the suspect and the deceased is still unknown.
A resident of the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity; told newsmen that the incident took place around 10pm on Saturday.
He said, “The suspect’s former landlord ejected him following the constant beating and divorce of his first wife.
“The suspect and the deceased met at the surgical equipment section of the Onitsha Bridgehead Market.
“As the relationship blossomed, he impregnated her but she later suffered a miscarriage under mysterious circumstances.
“The man quickly paid her bride price last December after the woman took in again.
“After he had killed the woman, he threw her corpse from the last floor of the five-storey building
“We learnt that he was evicted from where he was formerly living for beating his wife; and the same thing has happened again.”
Police detectives discovered the corpse of the deceased who stormed the scene and arrested the suspect following a tip-off.
The Divisional Police Officer of the area, Mr Rabiu Garba, confirmed the incident to newsmen.
He said the suspect had been arrested, adding that case had been transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau.
