The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the successful commissioning of the MT IYALOJA, a cutting-edge vessel designed to transform Nigeria’s maritime operations and enhance the country’s energy security.
The body’s Secretary General Erazua Oniha, in a statement praised the President’s administration for its unwavering commitment to revitalizing the nation’s maritime sector and unlocking its vast economic potential. The commissioning of the MT IYALOJA, the union noted, signals a significant milestone that will strengthen Nigeria’s position as a leading maritime hub in the West African region.
MWUN President General Francis Bunu described the launch of the vessel as a landmark achievement that embodies the government’s strategic vision to boost maritime infrastructure and capacity. Beyond the congratulatory message, MWUN has proposed a collaborative partnership with the government aimed at empowering Nigerian seafarers and improving their welfare across several key areas.
The Union emphasized the importance of prioritizing the employment of qualified Nigerian seafarers on the MT IYALOJA and other vessels operating within Nigerian territorial waters, ensuring that local expertise plays a central role in the country’s maritime activities.
