Fubara Jettisons Ambition In Pursuit Of Stability In Rivers State

Moses Ofodeme

The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primaries, for the interest of peace, stability, and unity in the state.
Fubara, in a statement issued after what he described as “deep reflection and extensive consultations” with family, friends, and political associates, said personal ambition must give way to the collective interest of the people of Rivers State.
The Governor explained that although the decision was difficult, he remained committed to supporting whoever emerges as the candidate of the APC in the governorship race.
According to him, leadership requires sacrifice, especially at a critical period when the stability of Rivers State must come ahead of individual aspirations.
Governor Fubara acknowledged the disappointment his withdrawal may cause among his supporters, many of whom had invested time, resources, and hope in his political ambition.
He, however, urged them to remain calm and steadfast, assuring them that their sacrifices and loyalty were not in vain.
The Rivers governor noted that his silence in recent weeks was deliberate and guided by the overriding interest of the state, adding that he had faced immense pressure and difficult choices during the process.
Using a local proverb, Fubara said, “not everything a hunter sees in the forest is spoken of in the marketplace,” stressing that some issues are better handled with restraint and wisdom in order to preserve peace.
He expressed appreciation to the All Progressives Congress for the opportunity and support extended to him throughout the process.
The governor also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his encouragement and support.
Fubara urged APC members and supporters to remain united and committed to building a stronger future for the party and Rivers State.
He maintained that his decision to step aside from the forthcoming governorship election was not borne out of fear or weakness, but out of conviction and sacrifice for the peace and unity of Rivers State.
Governor Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving the people of Rivers State until the end of his tenure.
