The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA has confirmed resumption of flight operations across the country.
Flight operations have resumed at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport as well as other airports in the country following the suspension of labour’s indefinite strike, said the Agency which also assured the general public and airline operators that the ongoing strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has not affected the Nigerian airspace.
Mr Abdulahi Musa, Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, NAMA, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.
According to Musa, operations of the agency remain uninterrupted as contingency arrangements have been put in place for processing of flight operations in the five major airports in Lagos, Kano, Port-Harcourt, Abuja and Enugu.
Francis Akinjole, General Secretary of the Air Traffic Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, said the resumption of flights was after the strike was suspended for a week to allow unions to continue negotiations with the Federal Government on a new minimum salary.
Akinjole said all entry points to the domestic airport terminals I (General Aviation Terminal) and II (Murtala Muhammed Airport II, Lagos and others had been reopened.
Alale Adedayo, the President General of Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP), confirmed resumption of flights after labour accepted the federal government’s offer for further negotiations.
He said flight operations had resumed at the domestic wing of Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Ikeja.
Passengers were seen boarding Value Jet, Ibom Air, Arik Air, and United Nigeria Airlines at Murtala Mohammed Airport II being managed by Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited. Musa said NAMA would continue to provide its services to airline operators in spite of the ongoing strike action, in keeping with its mandate to provide uninterrupted, safe, efficient, and economic air navigation services in the country.
