The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA),Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has been honoured with the Responsive Humanitarian Leadership Award in recognition of her leadership and contributions to emergency and disaster management in Nigeria.
The award was presented by His Royal Highness Dr. Ahmadu Aliyu Onawo, the Andoma of Doma, on behalf of Blueprint Newspapers during the 8th Blueprint Newspapers Annual Public Lecture and Impact Series/Awards held Tuesday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
The ceremony attracted a large gathering of national figures, including state governors, ministers, political leaders, traditional rulers, business executives and senior public officials. Also among those recognised at the event was Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Blueprint Newspapers cited Mrs. Umar’s transformational leadership and her drive to reposition NEMA toward a more proactive, people-centred and responsive disaster management system. The award adds to a growing list of honours acknowledging her commitment to public service, humanitarian leadership and strengthening Nigeria’s disaster management architecture.
Responding to the honour, Umar thanked Blueprint Newspapers and dedicated the award to NEMA’s management and staff, as well as to stakeholders and partners across Nigeria’s disaster management community. She also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the opportunity to serve, and to Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, for his guidance and support in advancing the Federal Government’s disaster risk management and humanitarian objectives.
Umar reaffirmed her commitment to providing purposeful leadership at NEMA and to working closely with relevant stakeholders to strengthen disaster risk reduction, preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery in line with the Federal Government’s goal of protecting lives, livelihoods and communities nationwide.
