The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) are strengthening their partnership to leverage communication services for more effective and timely disaster management across the country.

As part of efforts to deepen collaboration between the two organizations, the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

During the visit, Mrs. Umar emphasized the importance of expanding the scope of cooperation between NEMA and NCC, particularly in enhancing emergency communication systems, promoting disaster risk reduction initiatives, and supporting the development and dissemination of early warning systems.

The Director General NEMA, commended the NCC for activating the national emergency number and called for seamless interoperability between it and NEMA’s emergency contact number. This, she said, would ensure Nigerians in distress can access timely and coordinated emergency response services.

Responding, Dr. Aminu Maida assured the Commission’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with NEMA.

He stressed the need to increase public awareness about the availability and proper use of emergency call numbers to better serve citizens.
