The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Yola Operations Office has formally presented a Commendation and Award of Excellence to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) 153 Base Services Group, Yola, in recognition of its exceptional humanitarian service, professionalism and steadfast partnership in disaster response and community support across Adamawa State.

Mr Ladan Ayuba, Head of Operations for the NEMA Yola Office, on 15 October 2025, lauded the Base for its “uncommon dedication and self-less commitment” to humanitarian operations in the region. He highlighted the Group’s sustained role since 2014 in providing medical support to internally displaced persons (IDPs) during the insurgency, as well as its decisive intervention during the July 2025 flood in Yola South Local Government Area.

“In moments of crisis, when lives were at risk and communities were displaced, the 153 Base Services Group stood ready, mobilising personnel, vehicles and medical teams to support rescue operations, evacuate victims, deliver emergency aid and provide critical logistics and security support,” Mr. Ayuba said.

The award recognises a broad spectrum of humanitarian activities credited to the Base, including the provision of rescue transport, potable water supply to IDP camps, security during relief distribution and assistance in safely returning displaced persons to their homes. NEMA emphasised that such efforts reflect the genuine spirit of inter-agency cooperation and national service.

Group Captain Mu’azu Mohammed Mu’azu, Commander of the 153 Base Services Group, accepted the honour on behalf of the NAF and dedicated the award to the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar. He also extended special appreciation to the Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command, Air Vice Marshal Patrick Obeya, for his leadership and mentorship. “This award is a testament to the vision of the CAS and devotion of every airman and airwoman in our Group,” he said. “We remain committed to protecting lives, supporting communities in their greatest moments of need and standing ready, always, to serve our nation.”

The recognition aligns with the Chief of the Air Staff’s vision of a “people-centred Nigerian Air Force” and affirms the NAF’s ongoing commitment to national development, humanitarian impact and community resilience.
