The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), says it has the responsibility and deeply dedicated to protecting consumer rights and ensuring cost-reflective tariffs in the power sector.

The Regulator stressed this during a three-day Customer Complaints Resolution Meeting aimed at addressing unresolved grievances and improving service delivery across the industry.

The Commission’s Public Relations Officer, Hajiya Nusrat Wali, while speaking at the event, emphasised that the forum was designed to foster dialogue among electricity distribution companies, consumers, and other stakeholders.

She noted that the meeting would explore sustainable solutions to enhance consumer satisfaction and resolve lingering complaints in the sector.

Hajiya Wali highlighted the significant progress made by NERC, including capacity expansion and network growth through the licensing of electricity generation, transmission, distribution, and trading entities.

She reiterated the commission’s role as an independent regulatory body committed to driving improvements in Nigeria’s electricity supply industry.

In her opening remarks, the Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, Hajiya Aisha Mahmud, assured stakeholders of NERC’s commitment to maintaining market stability through clear regulations and the implementation of a multi-year tariff order. She emphasized that the commission would continue to engage stakeholders to promote transparency, fairness, and accountability in the sector.

The meeting underscored NERC’s resolve to bridge the gap between consumers and service providers, ensuring that the rights of electricity users are upheld while fostering a sustainable and efficient power sector.

Stakeholders expressed optimism that the forum would lead to actionable solutions and improved service delivery for millions of Nigerians.
