The Nigeria Customs Service, Katsina Area Command, recently hosted students from Government Girls’ College Senior, Katsina, under the ‘Catch Them Young’ youth engagement initiative. Held on 5 November 2025 at the Command’s Conference Hall, the program aimed to promote patriotism, discipline, and awareness of national service among young Nigerians.
Comptroller Abba-Aji Idriss, the Area Controller, emphasized the importance of early mentorship to nurture responsible future leaders. He described the initiative as a vital part of the service’s efforts to strengthen community relations and encourage lawful economic practices.
During the event, students participated in an interactive session detailing Customs operations, such as national security responsibilities, revenue generation, and trade facilitation. They also toured key Customs units, including the operations office, government warehouse, Customs Intelligence Unit, valuation section, ICT facility, and correspondence registry.
Students like Amina Garba expressed surprise at the breadth of Customs officers’ roles beyond duty collection, seeing them as protectors of the economy. Supervising teachers commended the program for inspiring students to consider public service careers.
The Katsina Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining such outreach programs and collaborating with educational institutions to support national development goals.
