Nigerian Business Operators Switch To Hybrid Solar Solutions To Cut Diesel Costs

Business operators in Nigeria are switching to hybrid solar solutions designed to deliver reliable power at a more manageable cost.

For businesses in Nigeria, keeping operations running comes with a cost that goes well beyond the electricity bill. Rising diesel prices, unreliable power supply and the pressure to keep critical operations running can significantly increase operating expenses and make energy one of the biggest challenges businesses face.

In the third quarter of 2026, the JMG company commissioned various solar projects that demonstrate the practical impact of this approach, including a 133.12kWp system for La Chaumiere Group and a 66kWp installation at JMG’s Victoria Island branch in Lagos.

At La Chaumiere Group, a leading premium culinary and hospitality company, JMG installed a hybrid system comprising 133.12kWp of solar PV generation, 160kW of hybrid inverter capacity and 163.84kWh of high-voltage lithium battery storage.

The system is expected to generate approximately 210.86MWh of clean electricity annually, meeting a substantial portion of the group’s daily energy requirements. More importantly for the business, it is projected to reduce diesel consumption by approximately 57,000 litresevery year, translating to more than ₦102 million in annual fuel savings and avoiding over 76 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

The firm is also demonstrating the same approach within its own operations.

At its Victoria Island branch, the company commissioned a 66kWp hybrid solar system, comprising 80kW of hybrid inverter capacity and 81.92kWh of lithium battery storage.

The system is expected to generate approximately 94.8MWh of clean energy annually, meeting about 80 per cent of the branch’s energy requirements.

The installation is projected to reduce diesel consumption by around 28,000 litresannually, representing estimated fuel savings of ₦50 million, while avoiding more than 37 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

The two projects demonstrate an important point: renewable energy does not have to be an abstract sustainability goal. When properly designed around a business’s actual energy needs, it can deliver measurable savings, greater energy independence and more predictable operations.

Both systems were designed using detailed load analysis and PVsyst simulation to determine the appropriate capacity for each location. The installations feature LONGi solar modules, Deye hybrid inverters and Deye high-voltage lithium battery storage, combining solar generation with intelligent energy management and storage.

According to Hussein Abbas, Head of Solar Division, of the firm the projects reflect the company’s focus on delivering renewable energy solutions that make both operational and commercial sense.

“Businesses need power they can depend on, but they also need solutions that make financial sense. These projects demonstrate that reliability, cost savings and sustainability do not have to be competing priorities. With the right system, businesses can reduce their dependence on diesel, lower their energy costs and build a more sustainable power infrastructure. We are not only delivering these solutions to our customers; we are also putting them to work within our own operations.”

The installation will also serve as a live demonstration facility, providing customers, consultants and project developers with an opportunity to see JMG’s hybrid solar technology operating in a real business environment and better understand what the solution could mean for their own operations.

Together, the two projects tell a simple but important story: when energy is treated as a strategic business investment rather than just an operating expense, the benefits can go far beyond keeping the lights on.

For businesses looking to reduce diesel dependence, manage energy costs and improve power reliability, the firm provides turnkey solar and hybrid power solutions designed around their specific energy requirements.

As the pressure to find more efficient and sustainable ways to power businesses continues to grow, the firm remains focused on helping organisations make the transition with solutions that are practical, measurable and built for long-term value.
