Commodore Micheal Ayabina, Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) WEY on Wednesday arrested two suspected traffic robbers fond of operating around Alakija black spot area of Lagos State.
Ayabina said this while addressing Newsmen at NNS WEY conference Hall, Navy Town, Ojo, Lagos State.
He said that as part of measures topple insecurity in the country, the Nigerian Navy on Sept. 16 arrested two suspected traffic robbers who were involved in robbing motorists at Alakija.
“The suspects were armed with knives and a gun riding on a motorcycle however, the suspect in possession of the gun is still at large. Efforts are on-going to make sure he is apprehended.
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend him because we have visited his house based on information and we are hot on his trail,” he said.
“We conduct night and day patrols, both vehicular and static patrols. That means we will have men at Alakija, and Kirikiri. Armed men, controlling traffic, and also trying to ensure that they apprehend criminals around them. Apart from that, we also have vehicular patrols, patrolling Kirikiri and Alakija. With these logistics on ground, we are going to continue to apprehend these criminals”
In his words: “Those are the black spots, particularly Alakija. All those people going through Ojo Cantonement and Alaba must pass through that place (Alakija). These criminals are fond of hiding around the refuse bins in those areas, and our Operatives will be there to apprehend them”
The commander further stated that they are still tracking to arrest one of the robbers.
“Although they are at large, we have gone to the houses of some of them, and we are going to apprehend them”
The Commodore said that the two suspects, their knives and the motorcycle will be handed over to the Nigerian Police for further investigation and prosecution.
Ayabina said that NNS WEY conducted both night and day vehicular and static patrols as part of measures put in place to ensure that insecurity is checked in the country.
“This means we have armed men at Alakija and Kirikri controlling traffic and also ensuring that they apprehend criminals around.
“Those dark spots particularly Alakija which includes commuters going to Ojo Cantonment, Alaba must pass through Alakija and these criminals have found a way of hiding around these areas.
“However, our men constantly patrol the area and are ready to apprehend the criminals.
“I warn intending criminals to desist from all forms of criminalities because the Nigerian Navy will continue to arrest criminals in our locality,” the Commodore said.
