The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) is sustaining its commitment to the maritime sector with stakeholder engagement as a key to success.
Speaking on this improved relationship, Dr. Pius Akutah, the Executive Secretary and CEO of NSC, emphasized this approach during a significant visit from the Senior Staff Association of Shipping, Clearing and Forwarding Agencies (SSACFA) to the Council’s Lagos headquarters.
In the meeting, Dr. Akutah made clear the Council’s dedication not only to regulate but to collaborate actively with stakeholders. He assured SSACFA that the NSC is ready to listen intently and address any concerns raised, underscoring a shared vision to propel the maritime sector forward. This invitation for open dialogue marks a strategic step to strengthen partnerships and ensure that the Council’s mandate is fulfilled effectively.
Adding to this commitment, Mr. Celestine Akujobi, Director of the NSC’s Consumer Affairs Department, highlighted the Council’s success in fostering solid partnerships, pointing to the impactful Memorandum of Understanding with the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria that established minimum wage standards for workers, a landmark achievement in protecting worker rights.
On the other hand, SSACFA’s President General, Harrison Ugochukwu, expressed a strong recognition of NSC’s critical role as the nation’s port economic regulator. He openly called for continued collaboration, seeking NSC’s guidance and regulatory support to nurture and advance the maritime industry’s growth.
This dialogue between NSC and SSACFA reflects a collective commitment to not only regulate but also nurture the maritime ecosystem through open communication, partnership, and mutual support, signaling an optimistic future for Nigeria’s maritime sector.
