| The National leadership of the Joint Action Committee of Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities. (SSANU) have called for a strike action over slow pace of Renegotiation of 2009 Agreements for the Non-Teaching Staff Unions. |
| President of SSANU, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Comrade Peters Adeyémi, released a joint statement announcing the decision. |
| The Unions said all branches of SSANU and NASU have been directed to commence total strike in all Universities and Inter-University Centres campuses from 12:00a.m. of 1st of May, 2026. |
| NASU & SSANU had earlier held a meeting with the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Education, Prof Suwaiba Ahmad, Permanent Secretaries, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Abel Enitan; the Executive Secretaries, National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof Abdullahi Ribadu to forestall the strike. |
| The Unions also raised the issues bothering on withdrawal of the 30% CONTTA award letter in circulation. |
| SSANU and NASU maintained that only full approval of their demands as contained in its letters to the government will make them to consider the strike. |
| The statement urged all NASU & SSANU members to comply with the directive for the survival and existence of the system. |
| The National Monitoring Teams have been set up to monitor the effectiveness of the strike. |
| According to the statement, any branch of NASU & SSANU in the Federal Universities, Inter-University Centres as well as State Universities found culpable of granting concessions or breaching the strike will be severely sanctioned. |
