The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHED, has said that the NERC issued directive on non-bill payment of electricity bills by Nigerians without pre-paid meters, has been highly misconstrued by the members of the public.

The company said that the new directive was meant for Maximum Demand Customers who may not have been metered before the February 28th, 2017 deadline earlier directed by NERC.

In compliance with the NERC directive, PHED went further to state categorically that it has metered all Maximum Demand Customers before the deadline adding that NERC personnel have officially conducted a validity check and have ascertained the veracity of  PHED’s claim on complete metering of all the MD Customers in her coverage area.

It further said that the company is currently carrying out re-calibration, re-certification, re- classification and replacement of faulty meters amongst the already metered MD Customers to further sanitize the system.

Meanwhile the Company ialso informed its non-maximum demand customers that a robust metering plan is on-going and will get to all in no time.
