The Chairman, Insurance Industry Consultative Industry (IICC), Funmi Babington-Ashaye has said that the industry requires the support of the media to improve the image to an appreciable level.
Babington-Ashaye, while delivering her welcome address at the ongoing 2018 IICC Media Retreat taking place in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, said that IICC was formed with the aim of raising the profile of the industry. She said that measures have been put in place to promote the Industry, but because Insurance is highly technical, the public needs to be educated to gain their trust and commitments.
Another objective of the IICC according to her is also to disseminate new and emerging industry regulation, ethics and professionalism, and financial literacy to enable the industry to contribute positively to the country’s GDP.
She therefore sought the support of the Insurance Journalists to work with them to assist the Industry to attain the appreciable image that it required.
Babington-Ashaye said that insurance is relevant to the nation’s economic growth and therefore need the media to collaborate with the industry to achieve better results.
Stressing more on the support, she announced the forthcoming IICC conference coming up in July in Abuja, and requested the media to spread the news to enable more participation from the stakeholders and to deepen Insurance penetration in the country.
